Updated: Feb 25, 2023

Well that was an interesting 12 months! As we approach our AGM (see below for details -we'd love to see you there) there's much to consider and so much more to plan for the year ahead, and for the years to come at Sailors Creek...

Funding, our first forays into seeking local and national grants

Over the next few weeks and months we will be exploring our suitability for local and national grants to fund some of our game-changing future projects. These projects are in early development with the support and experience of local and national organisations seeking solutions to global environmental problems.

We are actively seeking the help of anyone who has expertise in compiling funding bids and anyone who has spare hours to offer us for the application writing process.

Please email us sailorscreekinfo@gmail.com or call 07793022660 if you can

offer your time or expertise, thank you.

A Festival of Workshops at Sailors Creek

We have a really exciting series of partly funded daytime workshops in the pipeline for 2023. From late May to early October we are hoping to host one workshop per month covering fantastic days of guided foraging, spoon-making, nature walks, bramble weaving, natural dyeing, green woodworking, charcoal making and drawing amongst other things such as creating a in situ woven sculpture using waste rope from the beach. We are in the early stages of planning so we would welcome any more input before we finalise the schedule - all facilitators will be paid for their time and places on the workshop days will be offered on a sliding scale pricing system basis to keep them affordable for everyone.

Please email us sailorscreekinfo@gmail.com or call 07793022660

if you want to know more.

Sailors Creek CIC away game to The Agroforestry Research Trust

This year Anna plans to schedule a trip to Devon, for Sailors Creek CIC members, on the train to Totnes

The Agroforestry Research Trust run by Martin Crawford at Dartington is a brilliant site for visiting and 'is a non-profit making charity, registered in England, which researches and educates about agroforestry and perennial crops. They do practical research on their trial grounds, run courses, publish guides, and sell plants, seeds and books. They are a carbon-negative organisation - they store more carbon on their land sites than they produce from all their activities.' (agroforestry.co.uk)

We are keen to hear from anyone that might be up for a jolly to Dartington for a day out and a full on geek out with the UK's leading expert in Forest Gardening!

Please email us sailorscreekinfo@gmail.com or call 07793022660

if you want to know more.

(Tim and Tim from Rising Tide Boatworks CIC are always helping out with their magic enthusiasm)

Lastly!

Regular Tuesday volunteer days at the creek

If you want to come and volunteer at the creek Anna will be down there on most Tuesdays for the foreseeable.

It would be really great if we could have a whatsapp group and an email group for volunteers and members to keep in touch on a regular basis.

Please email Anna at sailorscreekinfo@gmail.com or call her on 07793022660

if you want to be kept up to date with regular volunteer days.

NEXT BEACH CLEAN WORK DAY SATURDAY 25TH MARCH 10am - 4pm

This year we have plenty more brash fun to have on the land, loads more beach clearing and exciting rebuilding to do. Get in touch!
